In the remote hill upazila of Alikadam in Bandarban, the Austria-based development organization Sonne International, together with its local partner organization Tahzingdong, has become a trusted name through its continuous contributions to education, healthcare, and humanitarian services. For many years, the two organizations have been working jointly to improve the quality of life of people living in remote hill communities.
According to local sources, the organizations have established and are operating schools in hard-to-reach areas to expand access to education. They also provide scholarships to underprivileged and talented students, offer computer training at a nominal fee, and extend financial assistance to disadvantaged families through various welfare initiatives. These efforts have enabled many underprivileged children and young people to join the mainstream education system.
In the healthcare sector, Sonne International and Tahzingdong have also been playing a significant role. Through regular medical camps, they bring qualified doctors, healthcare consultations, and essential medicines to people living in remote areas, benefiting many who otherwise have limited access to medical services.
Following the recent devastating floods, the two organizations once again demonstrated their humanitarian commitment by standing beside affected communities. Through their joint initiative, food assistance was distributed to approximately 550 flood-affected families across different areas of Alikadam Upazila. In addition, a medical camp was organized at Janalipara in Noyapara Union, where more than 150 people received free medical treatment and essential medicines.
Al Mamun, Country Director of Sonne International, said that the organization plans to continue providing healthcare services on a monthly basis through regular medical camps.
Local residents said that whether during natural disasters or in normal times, Sonne International and Tahzingdong consistently stand beside the people. Their sustained efforts in education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance have earned widespread appreciation among the people of Alikadam.
According to local community leaders, alongside government development initiatives, the contributions of Sonne International and its partner organization Tahzingdong are playing an important role in social development, human resource development, and improving the overall quality of life in the remote hill region. Residents expressed hope that these public welfare activities will continue in the years to come.
